Marine Jigs fall 2005

2008

This hull jig, spanning over 30’, is built upon a patented base that is secured into the ground.1

Description

Examples of jigs used for the construction of furniture systems and hull forms.

Overview

Jigs were an Applied Concepts specialty. They provide an accurate, quick, and simple foundation for assembly. A 50’ jig takes two builders three days to construct in its entirety. The following are some choice jig examples:

1. This 30’ hull jig is composed of over a hundred parts. Using a patented process, we derive jig frames from a surface model, ensuring their fit and accuracy. These puzzle pieces are nested and labeled for the router to cut. Assembly drawings are used to communicate the jig’s construction. The entire package, jig and drawings included, is sent to the builders for immediate assembly.

2. This cockpit module jig was created to ensure accurate geometry throughout the construction phases. Designed for the 85’ Unleashed, the console features atypical shapes that challenge traditional carpentry methods. By assembling this jig substructure, the builders achieved a precise foundation. Once a layer of fiberglass has been applied, the plywood substructure is excavated.

This console offset jig represents the inside skin of the fiberglass layers.2
