Description

Fast and inexpensive system of rigging bait for offshore trolling.

Overview

Trolling rigs tend to be very tedious endeavors. The First Mate is often given this duty the previous night. This multi-step procedure requires an abundance of materials, patience, and practice.

This project was intended to economically and functionally simplify the offshore rigging process. Rather than using wire and advanced wrapping techniques, the solution is a simple plastic piece that slips over the head of the baitfish. The piece snaps into place and seals at the front with provided rubber bands. The final design creates longer-lasting, more convincing bait by preventing washout and decreasing turbulence.

The project began with gathering dimensional data from baitfish. This data was then converted into three-dimensional space, allowing us to model concepts with this foundation. Working prototypes were created from Polyethylene, giving us the flexibility and durability we desired. To reach the desired user, we designed a cohesive brand identity for the entire product line.

The system enables quick rigging for both circle hooks and J-hooks.

The simple, versatile packaging attracts and informs the consumer.

The prototypes were tested in the ocean for realism and effectiveness.
