Key stakeholders were equally considered in developing cohesive solutions across the system.

Description

Systemic design strategies that holistically rethink sector roles within the US health care system.

Overview

Health Care is a topic of continual discussion here in the US. The health care industry is a complex system of stakeholders, policies, and procedures. Structured Planning, the systematic planning process utilized, was used to understand its intricacies and guide appropriate concepts and recommendations.

The project was built off groundwork laid by Michael Porter and Elizabeth Teisberg on redefining health care. Teams were developed to focus on each of the key stakeholders: providers, payers, suppliers, employers, and the government. Research began with the creation of project statements describing key issues and their contrasting viewpoints. These defining statements were used to structure the exploration and analysis of the modes, activities, and functions within the given sector.

The findings were assembled into an information structure used for grouping related topics. These clusters prioritized the opportunities for concept development. Solution elements were created and combined into holistic system elements, describing the properties and features of recommended strategies.

Various information structures were used to organize, create, and refine relevant topics.

System elements were derived from strategically combining robust concepts.

A future scenario was created to demonstrate the benefits of a unified health care system.
